Meet the Staff

Lamar Heystek is the coordinator of the Woodland Coalition for Youth. Before moving to Yolo County to attend UC Davis, Lamar Heystek formed Young San Leandrans, a political action committee dedicated to giving youth in his hometown a voice in civic affairs. Since then, he has earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science and Linguistics, taught as a lecturer at his alma mater and served on a number of community boards, including the City of Davis Recreation & Park Commission. At the age of 27, he was elected to the Davis City Council, becoming the youngest member of that body since the Vietnam War.

Rogelio Villagrana is a member of the Woodland Coalition for Youth and is its current chair. As the former Youth Training Coordinator, he was the Coalition's primary facilitator of youth engagement. Currently, he is the Educational Partnership Manager with the UC Davis Early Academic Outreach Program. He received his Bachelor’s in Chicana/o Studies and Rhetoric & Communication from UC Davis in 1998 and his Juris Doctorate from the UC Davis King Hall School of Law in 2002. He was a 2002 Equal Justice Works fellow while working for Legal Services of Northern California in Woodland. Upon completion of his fellowship, he was appointed District 3 Deputy Yolo County Supervisor. In this capacity, he led efforts to establish the citywide annual Día de los Niños (Day of the Children) celebration. He was elected to the Woodland School Board in November 2005. He has been accepted in the 2007 Sierra Health Foundation Health Leadership Program as well as the 2007 Great Valley Leadership Institute for elected officials.
